Seizing tiny, deliberate moments of autonomy amidst the beautiful, heavy demands of motherhood can feel small in the relentless rhythm of caring for others. But these ‘Sips of Selfhood’ - an idea coined by the writer Natasha Randall - are the golden threads that keep us tethered to exactly who we are. Join MotherFolk at Snug Sauna for an exclusive, stand-alone beach writing circle. Drawing on the raw, healing rhythms of the natural world, this unique session is an invitation to slow down and make yourself the main character of your story in small but powerful ways. The flow of the morning: ✨ Beach writing circle: We will gather on the sand in an intentionally intimate group of six mothers. Through thoughtful, guided writing exercises, you will be invited to look at the identity shifts you’ve experienced in motherhood. You’ll be held just as you have held your babies, with space to reflect alongside other mothers navigating the same seasons of change. 🌊 Space to pause: Following our circle, we will take a natural break to let the landscape do its work. Use this time to step out of your mind and into your body – whether that means feeling the sand beneath your feet, breathing in the salt air, or taking an independent dip in the sea. This is your time to become totally present. Please note: MotherFolk and Snug Sauna do not host or supervise open-water swimming; any sea dips are entirely independent choices undertaken at your own risk. 🔥 Snug Sauna session: We will round out our morning by stepping into the restorative, deep-heat ritual of Snug Sauna. Nestled right by the sea, this wood-burning sanctuary is the perfect place to integrate the morning's reflections. Use the steam and heat to find peace, stillness, and warmth in exactly who you are right now. What to bring: Swimwear (worn under your clothes), a towel to sit on in the sauna, a second dry towel or robe to change into, warm layers for afterward, plenty of drinking water – and a notebook and pen. This event is designed just for mothers, without babies or children.

About the host

Hi, I'm Lily

I run MotherFolk North Tyneside

Originally from London, I spent five years living in Amsterdam, where I gave birth to my first son. Far from family, my matrescence was marked by loneliness and a total loss of confidence and identity.

When my second son arrived, I had relocated to the North East to be near my family, yet that familiar isolation crept back in. I craved connection but found only superficial small talk and left baby groups feeling hollow. That was until I joined my first MotherFolk writing circle. There, I felt seen, welcome and held.

Now, I’m looking forward to holding space for mothers in North Tyneside. One where their shoulders drop as they walk in. Where they can exhale that long breath they might not have even realised they were holding. Where they know that a warm welcome, connection, understanding – and zero judgement or expectation – await.
