Introducing MotherFolk by Candlelight: adults-only writing circles for mothers at every stage. Using writing, community, and candlelight to put down our motherhoods in the heart of the winter hustle. Motherhood evolves, but the need to be held never ends. MotherFolk by Candlelight offers childcare-free gatherings designed to give you uninterrupted space created entirely for you and your feelings. Whether you’re the mother of a baby, a toddler, a child, a teenager, or even a grown-up - MotherFolk by Candlelight wants to hear your story. This circle is about winter narratives, and how it feels when they're at odds with our reality. If you have found yourself longing for the sound of a crackling fire, the feel of soft blankets over cold toes, the smell of cinnamon, and the glow of Christmas lights on small faces, but instead are feeling the weight of overwhelming expectations - this is a place to release the pressure, give yourself grace, and meet yourself exactly as you are.

About the host

Hi, I'm Beth

I am the circle holder for Newcastle East

I am a first-time mum to a little girl. Welcoming my daughter into the world has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life, but it has also been one that really cracked me open, taught me many lessons and magnified many of the parts of myself that were previously hidden.

I started attending MotherFolk writing circles when I was three months postpartum, and it was the best thing I could have done. It gave me an anchor to my week, a space to share my experiences with other mothers, and a dedicated time to process the huge changes I was going through in my own matrescence. It really did save me in lots of ways.

I am so excited to be welcoming more mothers to experience MotherFolk and to be part of a community that values mothers' experiences and offers an opportunity to feel validated - especially during a time when you are so often told to just be thankful.
